As stated in my previous article, July 18 and 19 is an action packed weekend. The day after the successful URCC IV(held in July 18), muay thai fans are treated to a spectacular display of muay thai skills in the 9th NCR Muay Thai Tournament- The Mayor Jejomar Binay Cup.
MAP Makati chapter, under the able leadership of Kru Jun Dellosa staged the said event at the Makati Sports Club in Leviste St. Salcedo Village, Makati City. This tournament served as both the selection tournament of fighters who have earned the honor of representing NCR in the National Muay Thai Championship to be held in September and the regular every-two-months tournament organized by the association of MAP-NCR chapters.
MAP-Makati Chapter was able to get the support of the Mayor Jejomar Binay and have ensured that this tournament will be another success.
There’s a total of 22 matches with MAP Las Pinas Chapter, headed by Kru Dante Silvestre bringing home the Over-All Championship Trophy. A new award was introduced in this competition, the Best Coach award and was unanimously given by the judges and jury to Kru Onyok Trasmonte of MAP-Makati.

The tournament banner of the 9th NCR Muay Thai Tournament-Mayor Jejomar Binay’s Cup

The medals up for grabs and will be awarded to the winners of the selection for the nakmuays who will represent NCR in the National Muay Thai Championship this September

A very stylish and grand decoration of the venue. MAP Makati has elevated the NCR muay thai competition to a higher stage.

Beck made her debut as judge in muay thai. She has another goal in mind, to be an certified international muay thai judge and referee. From a nakmuay, to kru, now to officiating team…while I remained as a humble nakmuay. He he he.

Another view of the venue design and the ring. These grand arrangements are only seen in professional boxing or MMA matches that are held in exclusive hotels.

Former Muay Thai national training pool member Danilo Dilag of MAP-QC is jubilant after taking the victory for a gold medal win.

The Honorable Mayor Jejomar Binay graced the event. In his speech, he was surprised to find out that muay thai is already a popular sport and is pleased that this is already the second time that such a tournament was held in his city and has pledged his continous support for muay thai.

Danilo Dilag wins again! This time with shiny red shorts hahaha.
Congrats to all the winners
Too bad I didn’t get to watch.
Do tournaments like these have an age limit? And when do the junior tournaments come up?
July 28, 2009 at 11:39 am |
Yup, he’s back in his deadly form.
As for the tournaments, they do. Competitors should be from 18 to 25. As for the juniors tournament, its still in the works. Will let you know if this pushes thru.

Is a 17 year old still considered in the junior division? I’m turning 17 in March you see
And if Leo Rico competed in this, then is he 18?

Congratulations to Kru Jun Dellosa! The venue was elegant and the food delicious. Thanks.

Yes, Kru Jun and his MAP Makati did a very good job!

Woah! Missed this! Videos please!
Congrats to Beck! I think somewhat, that being a nak muay is much more adventurous and exciting! Hehehe! Don’t leave me behind!

Sir Vic posted some of the videos in Youtube. I think the keyword is 9th NCR muay thai tournament.
Yup, being a fighter is more exciting. That’s why I’m delaying myself despite consistent proddings from the other krus for me to attend the instructor’s training. Who knows, we could be classmates.
August 3, 2009 at 7:59 pm
Yeah! Give me more time to prepare and when I’m ready to do the instructor’s training, let’s do it together
But I hope to still compete. Maybe 5 more fights….hehehe! That is when my injury heals enough and I’m strong again.

My wards are oogling at those medals. They’re making a joke on their previous medals – the cheap ones. Hehehe!
August 1, 2009 at 9:26 pm |
Don’t worry, I’m sure several of your wards will have these medals hanging on thir necks soon. Did they competed in the CAR finals? Beck was supposed to be one of the officials but she was informed too late.
August 3, 2009 at 7:56 pm
My wards (seniors) weren’t able to join.
Kru Noel Sumingwa is focusing on his masters degree. The college won’t hire him if he does not finish his masters this 2nd Sem. So he’s focusing on that. Because if the college fires him, we would not have any place to train.
As for our senior wards competing during school days, their college won’t permit it and won’t even support them or give at least leniency when a fight is scheduled during the week days.
That’s why we proposed that future tournaments would be held during the weekends.
My senior wards never even received any congratulations or greetings from their college officials when they won gold, silver, bronze, when they represented the province. It’s discouraging for my wards.
I also took leave from coaching for the time being since my wife’s due date is on the 27th of this month.
But I teach the kids in the afternoon.

nice pic kru pierre… see u on national championship…
September 3, 2009 at 3:24 pm |
Thanks, Kru Dante. Goodluck to your wards who made it to the National Finals. The pride of NCR hangs on your hands now.
August 1, 2009 at 9:23 pm |
Yup. I don’t know if he’s 18. Didn’t get to check the profile of the competitors. Good for you. You have ample time to train and dominate the junior division.
August 4, 2009 at 7:03 pm |
I see. I think its the local organizers who set the schedule of the tournament, not the MAP national officers. You can voice this out with the local organizers.
Have you tried doing courtesy calls to your provincial government whenever your wards win some medals?
Hey, congratulations! I’m sure you’re excited to be a father. And I hope you’ll invite me during your baby’s dedication. Cough! Cough!
August 4, 2009 at 7:04 pm |
You’re still young. You still have a lot of mileage or fights left in you. If Randy Couture can still fight at 43, why not us, right?
August 4, 2009 at 7:15 pm |
Why not? I hope you can come over if matters are not so pressing with the busy job that you do.
I am excited to be a father and I’m preparing. But one cannot prepare enough to be a father. Hello eyebags!

Believe me, your body clock will turn-upside down. But to see your baby smile, its priceless!
