Still reeling from the aftershocks brought by Typhoon Ondoy and with another threat of a Super Typhoon Pepeng looming on the horizon, I didn’t have the opportunity to post the results of the 2009 Muay Thai National Championships which was held last Sept 28 and 29 at the Sta. Lucia Grand Mall earlier. The event itself was in danger of being cancelled because the venue was affected by the floods brought by Typhoon Ondoy. Fortunately, the waters quickly subsided and the athletes from the provinces made it safely to Manila to participate in the National Championship this year. As expected, the RP team dominated the competition and took home 10 out of 12 Gold Medals up for grabs.

The 2009 Philippine Muay Thai National Championship wouldn’t be possible without the generous support of PTT and its president, Khun Siripong Phoungpaka. From left to right: Paul Senador-PTT HR Manager, unfortunately I wasn’t able to get the name of this beauty from PTT, Red Dumuk-MAP OIC and Sec. Gen., Khun Siripong Phoungpaka-PTT Phils President and Ajarn Pudpadnoy Omglin

The RP Muay Thai Team

Beck with her close buddy Zaidi Laruan. They’re joined with Dindo Camansa, a never say die fighter from Tacurong City.

Representatives from Misamis Oriental

The contingent from Zamboanga City, headed by Kru Arnold Palpalatoc. Kru Arnold is one of the best coaches that the RP team ever had. I missed training with him. But the RP team’s loss is Zamboanga City’s gain

I’ll be posting the fight pics later.

Nice pics.
We have improved our Muay training. We have Dr. Capan who trains with Team Lakay. Thanks to him, we have a more focused upgraded circuit training and the workouts are better than ever.
He’s working as an intern doctor, so he’s able to join us. I’ve learned a lot from. My coaching skills are limited – (no one mentored me to coach):-) so I am glad that Doc is with us. We did not do well in the September tournament in Baguio and the reason is our fighters were not prepared. But since Doc arrived are weekly training has definitely become more intense. We will skip the Adivay Festival invitational tournament and instead focuse on next year’s Panagbenga Muay Invitational.
I’ll send some pics of our training via email

Ray,
I’ve been meaning to send you an e-mail or at least call you. How’s everything in La Union? Were you affected by the floods? I hope everybody is safe. How’s baby Kendra?

Our internet connection has been out since that last time I posted until now. So I’m emailing from town.
My cp is out too. Prompting me to borrow another cp.
Thank God we are safe. There are physical damages to the compound where sections of the east and west wall collapsed due to the nonstop hard rain we had for nearly 72 hours.
The ground floor got flooded to around ankle deep water. We were very fortunate that the flooding was not worse unlike in the city where it was up to chest deep.
We lost several relatives up in Benguet. Because of the washed out roads then we were not able to join their funeral services.
We are still recovering and hopefully typhoon Ramil will swiftly leave the country. Presently the winds are picking up and there are occasional scattered hard rain.
Hanaken, is doing fine. Thank the Lord she isn’t sick but very much healthy and getting heavier. She is now 1 month and three weeks old and 5 kilos heavy. She is giving us a workout and lots of fun. I’ve never realized that my parents would be so playful with Hanaken and what joy Hanaken would be to them. I guess it’s uniquely different once parents see their grandchild.
